Exciting Focused Ultrasound News
Earlier this year, Right Scan Right Time hosted patient leaders in Washington, DC to advocate for expanded access to focused ultrasound therapy.
Recently, and thanks in part to that advocacy, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed a rule that would create a Medicare coverage pathway to expedite patients’ access to innovative medical devices- like focused ultrasound technology.
While there are some limitations to this proposal, which is not final yet, the rule could lead to more physicians providing “breakthrough” technologies and more patients having access to innovative care.
We’re excited about this proposal and what it means for the future of focused ultrasound, but here’s what some of our patient advocates had to say:
“I decided to go with the HIFU treatment because the risk of side effects was minimal relative to other prostate cancer treatments, but I know without coverage, this isn’t an option for everyman. I hope this new rule will eventually help others facing this disease, whether they’re eligible for Medicare or not, have more choices when considering their own treatment.”
Reggie
“I paid for my treatment out of my retirement savings, but that shouldn’t be the case- I’m excited about what this rule means for the future of focused ultrasound.”
Thomas
“It’s like Santa came early this year! It’s great to see CMS responding to patient demands- but I’ll continue to share my story and the success I’ve had with this technology.”
Victor
Thank you to all of our patient leaders who have worked tirelessly to tell help pave the way for better access to innovative technologies. We truly appreciate all you’ve done and continue to do.
